Britt Hatzius (*1978, Chiclayo) is an independent artist working in sound, film and performance based in Germany. After studying Fine Art Media at Chelsea College of Art London and experimental methods in Visual Sociology at Goldsmiths University London, she collaborated within academic research at Studio INCITE (Critical Enquiry into Ethnography and Technology) and CUCR (Centre for Urban and Community Research) and became part of image-sound collaborations with Not Applicable, a group of musicians, composers, visual artists and filmmakers. Since her cinematic installation ‚Micro Events‘ (2012) and her performance ‘Blind Cinema’ (2015) her work is presented internationally at performance and media arts festivals, institutions and galleries, including Donau Festival (AT), Vooruit, Beursschowburg and BOZAR (BE), Mois Multi (CA), Culturgest (PT), PUSH, COIL PS122 and TBA festival (US), Exit festival (FR) and IFFR International film festival (NL). Her sonic work within a performance context include ‘In Order Not To Be There’ (2017) and ‘Listening Distance’ (2019) using binaural sound and ‘A Wall That Is Not There’ (2024) using the Ottosonic sound system. Together with echo location expert Thomas Tajo she founded vision inclusive, a platform offering echo location, sensory training, and supporting collaborations between mixed-abled practitioners and researchers.
